Daily mid-market reference rates. Past performance is not a guide to the future.

One pound is worth about JD 0.9541 right now on the mid-market rate, the "real" rate the banks trade at and the one you see on Google or Reuters.

Pound to Jordanian dinar is one of the most predictable pairs on this site, because the dinar is locked to the US dollar. So the rate really just follows the pound against the dollar. But the catch is the same as always. The mid-market rate is not the rate you actually get. A UK high-street bank can quietly keep 3 to 5 percent of it in the exchange rate, and because the dinar is a high-value currency, that loss hides easily.

As of 7 August 2026, 1 GBP = JOD0.9541, up 1.28% on the week.

01

Is this a good GBP to JOD rate right now?

Today's mid-market rate is 1 GBP = JD 0.9541. Notice it is below 1. The dinar is one of the world's highest-valued currencies, so a single dinar is worth a little more than a pound.

Because the dinar tracks the dollar, this pair moves only as much as the pound moves against the dollar. Through 2026 it has traded roughly between JD 0.93 and JD 0.98.

At around JD 0.9541, the pound is near the middle of that range. There is no Jordan-specific dip to wait for, because the rate is set by the pound-dollar market, not by anything happening in Amman.

Use the rate card above for the 30-day and 90-day range. On a pair this steady, the provider you choose matters far more than the day you send.

02

How much is your money in dinars?

At today's mid-market rate of JD 0.9541 to the pound, here is what common amounts are worth. Because the dinar is high-value, the dinar figures are smaller than the pounds you send.

These are mid-market figures, the benchmark, not a quote. A provider will give you a little less. The live comparison table above shows the real, after-fee amounts.

You convertYou get (mid-market)
£1JD 0.95
£5JD 4.77
£10JD 9.54
£50JD 47.70

The rates refresh live, so these figures track the market through the day. For the exact dinars a specific provider will send today, use the calculator and comparison above.

03

Dinars back to pounds

Going the other way is useful for checking a payout, a salary or a price in Amman. Because each dinar is worth a little over a pound, dinar amounts convert to slightly larger pound figures.

Dinar amountIn pounds (mid-market)
JD 100£104.82
JD 1,000£1,048.16
JD 10,000£10,481.56
JD 100,000£104,815.65
JD 1,000,000£1,048,156.45

Because the dinar is high-value, even small dinar sums carry real weight in pounds, which is exactly why the exchange-rate margin matters on this route.

04

What sending money to Jordan really costs

Because the rate barely moves, the margin is where nearly all the money is won or lost. The provider matters far more than the timing.

Most of the cost hides in the exchange-rate margin, not the visible fee. A UK bank often charges a flat wire fee and then converts at a rate 3 to 5 percent below mid-market. That gap is the profit, and on a high-value currency the small-looking numbers make it easy to miss.

Here is an illustrative £1,000 transfer at a mid-market rate near JD 0.945.

A specialist using close to the mid-market rate sends roughly JD 938.

A high-street bank converting at around JD 0.907 plus a wire fee sends roughly JD 907.

That gap of about JD 31 is close to £33 on a single £1,000 transfer, a 4 percent loss dressed up as a small number. The rule is simple: always compare the dinars that actually arrive, which the table above ranks for you.

05

Why the dinar only moves with the dollar

This is the single most useful thing to understand about pound to dinar, and it saves you from a common mistake.

Since 1995 the Central Bank of Jordan has pegged the dinar to the US dollar at a fixed rate, and it has held that peg ever since. The dinar-dollar rate does not move.

That means pound to dinar is really just pound to dollar in disguise. When the pound rises against the dollar, it rises against the dinar by the same amount. When it falls, it falls. Jordan's own economy, interest rates and news do not move the rate day to day.

The practical lesson: if you are waiting for a "better" moment, watch the pound against the dollar, not Jordanian headlines. A strong pound-dollar day is a strong pound-dinar day.

One more thing to know. The dinar is a restricted currency offshore. You cannot buy or hold real dinars in a UK bank account, so your pounds are converted to dinars when the money arrives in Jordan.

06

What keeps the peg solid

A peg is only as good as the reserves behind it, so it is fair to ask whether Jordan can keep defending the rate. In 2026 the answer is clearly yes.

Deep reserves. The central bank holds foreign reserves well above 25 billion dollars, enough to cover the best part of a year of imports. That is the firepower it uses to hold the peg.

International support. Jordan runs a programme with the IMF, which has repeatedly praised the central bank's commitment to the peg, and it receives substantial grants from the US and Gulf partners that top up its dollar reserves.

Remittances. Money sent home by Jordanians abroad is a large and steady source of foreign currency, adding another cushion.

The takeaway: the peg has survived years of regional turbulence, and the reserves behind it are strong. For a sender, that means the rate you see is genuinely stable, set by the pound and the dollar rather than by any wobble in the dinar itself.

07

Who sends pounds to Jordan, and why

The money moving from Britain to Jordan comes from a few clear groups, and it is a meaningful source of foreign currency for the country.

The Jordanian and wider Levantine community in Britain sending regular support to family at home.

Families of students. Jordan sends a good number of students to UK universities, and sponsors and parents transfer living costs and fees.

Aid workers and expats. Amman is a regional hub for the UN, NGOs and diplomacy, so a community of UK professionals based there moves income from British accounts.

Business. UK firms trading with Jordan settle invoices for goods and services.

08

Getting the money there, and the weekend trap

Jordan has modern payment rails, but one timing quirk trips up a lot of senders.

The rails. Jordan runs an instant payment system called CliQ, which moves money between local accounts around the clock, including weekends, using just a mobile number or alias. Once an international transfer reaches a Jordanian bank such as Arab Bank, the Housing Bank or Jordan Islamic Bank, CliQ can route it to the recipient fast. Cash pickup is also widely available through Western Union and local exchange houses.

Mind the Friday-Saturday weekend. Jordan's weekend is Friday and Saturday, not Saturday and Sunday. A standard bank transfer sent from the UK on a Thursday can sit unprocessed until Sunday, so send early in the week if timing matters.

Ramadan and Eid. Bank hours shorten during Ramadan and the Eid holidays close the banks for a few days, which can add delay.

Get the name right. For a cash pickup, the recipient's name must match their Jordanian ID or passport exactly, or the agent will refuse to pay out.

09

Tax, and should you send now or wait?

Here is the factual picture, not advice.

Tax. Money sent to family in Jordan as support or a gift is not taxed as income for the recipient. Jordan has no gift or wealth tax, so a family transfer arrives in full. Tax only enters the picture if the money is really payment for work or business. None of this is tax advice.

Timing. Because the dinar is pegged to the dollar, the only thing that changes your rate is the pound against the dollar. If you want to send when the pound is strong, watch pound-dollar, and initiate early in the week to clear before Jordan's Friday-Saturday weekend. If your family needs the money, though, send when they need it and focus on the provider rate, which you control.

For a large payment on a known future date, some people use a forward contract from an FCA-authorised broker to lock today's pound-dollar rate. Weigh the certainty against the cost before committing.

10

GBP to JOD: frequently asked questions

The mid-market rate today is about JD 0.9541 to the pound, which is the benchmark. The best rate you can actually get is whichever provider in the comparison above delivers the most dinars after fees. It updates live and is ranked by exactly that.

Because it is pegged to the US dollar at a fixed rate that makes one dinar worth more than one dollar, and currently more than one pound. The value is held in place by the Central Bank of Jordan's large foreign reserves, not by market trading.

Yes. The dinar has been pegged to the US dollar since 1995 at a fixed rate, and the central bank has defended it ever since. That is why the dinar-dollar rate does not move, and pound to dinar simply follows the pound against the dollar.

Yes, but only because the pound floats against the dollar. Since the dinar-dollar rate is fixed, every move in pound to dinar comes from the pound-dollar market. Watching Jordanian economic news will not tell you where the rate is going.

At today's mid-market rate of JD 0.9541, £1,000 is about JD 954.06. A real provider sends a little less once its rate and fee are applied, and a bank hiding a 4 percent margin can be around JD 30 worse than a mid-market specialist, so compare the after-fee amounts above.

Digital specialists and cash pickups can arrive within minutes to a few hours, and Jordan's CliQ system routes funds instantly once they reach a local bank, even at weekends. A plain bank transfer usually takes one to three working days, and can stall over Jordan's Friday-Saturday weekend.

No. Personal remittances and gifts sent to family are not taxed as income in Jordan, and there is no gift or wealth tax. Tax only applies if the money is really payment for employment or business services. This is general information, not tax advice.

Since the dinar tracks the dollar, the rate is best when the pound is strong against the dollar. For fast delivery, send early in the week, Monday to Wednesday, so the transfer clears before Jordan's Friday-Saturday banking weekend.
