Iftin Express Review Verdict

Our verdict

Iftin Express is a money transfer service built around one community: the Somali diaspora sending money home from the UK. Its home route is the UK to Somalia and the wider Horn of Africa, with East African destinations too.

Its strengths are reach and clarity. Money lands in seconds on Somali mobile wallets such as EVC Plus, cash can be collected in US dollars across Mogadishu, Hargeisa and Bosaso, and it publishes a daily rate you can check before you send.

The catch is protection and track record. It is a Small Payment Institution, so your money carries less cover than a bank, and there is very little independent review evidence to lean on.

Best for

  • Sending to family in Somalia, Somaliland or Puntland by mobile money or cash
  • Recipients with no bank account who collect cash in US dollars
  • People who value a Somali-run service that shows its rate upfront

Look elsewhere if

  • You want the lowest total cost on a digital wallet transfer
  • You want a long, independent review record to check first
  • You want bank-style protection on the money you send

How Much Does Iftin Express Cost?

A fee set at checkout, not a fixed price list

Iftin Express does not publish a fixed fee. The cost is worked out by how you pay and which channel you use, and shown before you confirm. So we could not quote a set price, only model one.

For our worked example we assumed about £5, which the research suggests is often waived on a first app transfer. Older cash-agent transfers on this corridor ran higher, nearer the 4 to 6 percent range.

A rate you can actually see first

The rest of the cost is the exchange rate. Here Iftin does something its peers often do not: it publishes a daily rate on its site, and the app shows a live rate tracker before you commit.

Late in June 2026 that rate sat near 1.29 dollars to the pound against a mid-market rate of about 1.32, a margin of roughly 2.2 to 2.3 percent. The rate is fixed at the moment you confirm.

03

Worked Example: Sending £1,000 to Somalia

Somalia runs on the US dollar, so transfers are paid out in dollars, not Somali shillings. This models the cost using the live mid-market rate of 1.324 dollars to the pound on 1 July 2026, with Iftin's own margin. Rates move daily, so treat it as a snapshot.

Provider Rate (USD per £) Fee Recipient gets
Mid-market rate 1.324 none ~$1,324
Iftin Express (modelled) ~1.29 ~£5 ~$1,287 to $1,295

Read it like this. Against a mid-market benchmark of about 1,324 dollars, our modelled Iftin transfer lands your recipient roughly 1,287 to 1,295 dollars, once its margin and a small fee come out.

That is an all-in cost of about 2.7 to 3 percent, which is competitive for this corridor. These are modelled figures though, built on Iftin's published rate rather than a live checkout quote, so confirm the number in the app before you send.

Costs to watch

  • There is no fixed fee, so price your own transfer in the app first
  • The £5 fee here is an assumption, and a first transfer may be free
  • Low-fee wallet apps can still deliver a little more on a digital transfer

Where and How Can You Send Money?

Somalia and East Africa, in depth

This is a specialist network, built for recipients who have no bank account. We found options from instant mobile money to cash in hand, across Somalia and into East Africa.

Mobile money is the quickest. Funds reach EVC Plus, Zaad or Sahal wallets in Somalia, or M-Pesa in Kenya, within minutes. Cash can be collected in US dollars at Iftin agents in cities such as Mogadishu, Hargeisa and Bosaso.

Bank deposits are also supported, routed to local banks such as Premier Bank and Salaam Bank, though these are slower. Wallet balances are held in dollars, so recipients sidestep the volatile Somali shilling entirely.

If Somalia is your route, it pays to see how the market prices it, so compare the field on the send money to Somalia route before you commit.

Speed and access

Method Speed
Mobile money such as EVC Plus Within minutes
Agent cash pickup Usually within minutes
Bank deposit 1 to 2 business days

You send from the IftinPay app on iOS or Android, from the website, or in person at a UK agent such as the Kilburn High Road office. Funding works by debit card, credit card or a direct bank transfer, and a card may carry its own cost. We could not confirm Apple Pay or Google Pay.

Who Is Iftin Express Best For?

Families sending to unbanked recipients

This is the core case. If your recipient has no bank account but does have a mobile number, money reaches their EVC Plus or Zaad wallet in minutes, or they collect dollars in cash at an agent.

You also get support in Somali as well as English, which many rivals cannot offer.

People who want to see the rate before they send

A good fit. Iftin publishes a daily rate and shows a live tracker in the app, so you can price a transfer upfront, which a login-gated rival makes harder.

That visible pricing, plus a margin a touch keener than some legacy peers, is a real point in its favour.

Cost-first and protection-first senders

Less of a fit. If you want the lowest wallet cost, a low-fee app can edge it. If you want bank-style protection, its Small Payment Institution status means less cover than a larger firm.

There is also very little independent review history to check, which some senders will want.

When another provider fits better

  • You want the lowest total cost on a mobile wallet transfer
  • You want a deep, independent review record before committing
  • You want stronger protection on funds while a transfer is pending
06

Iftin Express Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Long-established Somali specialist on the UK to Somalia route
  • Near-instant payout to EVC Plus, Zaad, Sahal and Kenyan M-Pesa wallets
  • Agent cash pickup in US dollars across Mogadishu, Hargeisa and Bosaso
  • Publishes a daily rate and an in-app live rate tracker
  • Somali-language support and a diaspora focus

Cons

  • A Small Payment Institution, so not required to safeguard funds, and no FSCS
  • Very thin independent review base, so little evidence at scale
  • Rarely the cheapest, as low-fee apps can beat it on wallet cost
  • No fixed published fee, so you must price each transfer in the app
  • Several key figures are single-source and need a live check
07

Is Iftin Express Safe?

Who runs it

We checked the FCA Register. Iftin Express is run by Iftin Express Ltd, registered as a Small Payment Institution under firm reference number 524141, holding money-remittance permission.

The firm has been on the FCA register since 2010 and is based in London, on Kilburn High Road. It is a long-established Somali specialist, also registered with HMRC for anti-money-laundering supervision.

How your money is protected

This is the part to understand carefully. Iftin Express is registered as a Small Payment Institution, which is not a bank and not the larger Authorised Payment Institution category.

That distinction matters for your money. A Small Payment Institution is not legally required to safeguard, or ring-fence, customer funds, and Iftin's own terms do not confirm that it does so anyway.

There is no FSCS protection either, because it is not a bank. In plain terms, if the firm failed while your transfer was in progress, there is no guarantee your money would be ring-fenced or returned. Transfers usually clear in minutes, which shrinks that window, but the gap is real.

Checks and security

Expect firm onboarding. We found Iftin verifies you with photo ID and a selfie, uses encryption and two-factor login, monitors transactions, and can ask for proof of source of funds on larger sends.

Those checks can hold a payment until you reply, a common friction across the sector. The recipient's name must match their ID exactly for a cash collection, so enter it with care.

08

Using Iftin Express: App, Funding and Support

Getting started. Download the IftinPay app on iOS or Android, or use the website, then verify your identity with a photo ID and a selfie. You add a recipient by their wallet number, cash-pickup details or bank account before you send.

Paying. Fund a transfer with a debit card, a credit card or a direct bank transfer. A bank transfer usually keeps the cost down, while a card can add its own fee.

Support. Help runs by in-app ticket, email and phone, in English and Somali. The published contacts include info@iftinuk.com and a London phone line, though the support hours are not stated.

Iftin Express Customer Reviews and Reputation

We read the reviews rather than only the scores, and the honest picture here is that there are barely any. The Trustpilot profile is effectively empty, and the app has too few ratings to mean much.

Source Score Reviews As of
Trustpilot Unclaimed / no usable score Negligible Jul 2026
Apple App Store 5.0/5 Only ~3 ratings Jul 2026
Google Play Unrated 100+ downloads Jul 2026

What people praise: where feedback exists, it points to fast EVC Plus payouts and reliable cash pickup in rural Somali areas.

What goes wrong: the main sector-wide complaint is a transfer held for verification checks. There is little Iftin-specific negative volume, but that is partly because there is so little review data at all.

How Does Iftin Express Compare?

On this route the real test is the dollars received and how fast they arrive, and you can see the wider field in our money transfer comparison.

Two rivals frame the choice. Our Dahabshiil review covers the largest Somali remittance network, with greater reach though a slightly wider rate, while our Juba Express review looks at a close peer that hides its pricing behind a login, where Iftin shows its rate upfront. Two fellow Somali operators are worth a look too: our Amal and Tawakal reviews.

Rates move daily, and we refresh the live figures, so run a live comparison of today's rates and fees before you send. Then weigh Iftin's reach, visible pricing and Somali support against the lower cost a digital app can offer, and the protection gap a Small Payment Institution carries.

11

Final Verdict: Is Iftin Express Worth It?

Iftin Express is a legitimate, long-established way to send money to Somalia, built by a Somali team for that community. Payout is genuinely strong: minutes to a mobile wallet, cash in dollars across the country, and support in Somali as well as English.

It also does something its peers often skip, publishing a daily rate and showing it live in the app, at a margin a touch keener than some legacy rivals. That transparency is a real plus.

What holds it back is protection and evidence. It is a Small Payment Institution, so it is not required to safeguard your money and there is no FSCS cover, and the independent review base is almost non-existent. Low-fee apps can also deliver a little more.

For Somalia remittance it earns 3 out of 5. Use it for its reach, visible pricing and Somali support, but compare the total cost against a low-fee app first, and go in knowing the money carries less protection than a bank.

Iftin Express FAQs

It is legitimate. Iftin Express is run by Iftin Express Ltd, an FCA-registered Small Payment Institution under firm reference number 524141, on the register since 2010.

Note the protection limits, though. A Small Payment Institution is not required to safeguard your funds, and there is no FSCS cover, so it carries less protection than a bank.

It does not publish a fixed fee. The cost depends on how you pay and is shown before you confirm, so price your own transfer in the app. As a guide, we modelled about £5, which may be waived on a first transfer, plus an exchange-rate margin of roughly 2.2 to 2.3 percent.

Usually very fast. Mobile money to EVC Plus, Zaad or Sahal, and agent cash pickup, typically arrive within minutes. Bank deposits can take one to two business days, and the terms promise delivery by the end of the third business day at the latest.

A range built for unbanked recipients. You can send to mobile wallets such as EVC Plus, Zaad and Sahal, or Kenyan M-Pesa, arrange cash pickup in US dollars at agents in Mogadishu, Hargeisa and Bosaso, or pay into a local bank such as Premier Bank.
