Nec Money Review Verdict

Our verdict

Nec Money is an independent London money transfer firm built for the South Asian diaspora. Its main routes are Pakistan, India and Bangladesh, with a wider list of around 90 countries on top.

The appeal is value for regular senders. We found frequent zero-fee promotions and a tight exchange-rate margin, so if you send money home often, the all-in cost can be very competitive.

There are gaps to flag. Nec does not publish live rates, the review base is small, and a few corridor details, like which wallets it pays in Pakistan, were not confirmed in our research.

Best for

  • Regular senders to Pakistan, India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka
  • People who fund by bank transfer to dodge card fees
  • Senders who want fast bank or wallet payout in minutes

Look elsewhere if

  • You want a published, mid-market rate you can verify first
  • You rely on a specific wallet, like easypaisa or JazzCash
  • You prefer a large, heavily reviewed brand for reassurance

How Much Does Nec Money Cost?

Low fees, especially on bank transfers

This is where Nec looks strong. We found it frequently runs zero-fee promotions, and even off-promotion the fee for a bank-funded transfer is around £1.99, whatever the amount you send.

The catch is how you pay. Funding by debit or credit card costs more, and a credit card can be treated as a cash advance by your bank, so a Faster Payments bank transfer is almost always your cheapest route.

So the headline fee is genuinely low. The number that decides value, though, is the exchange rate sitting underneath it.

A tight margin, but no published rate

Nec does not show its live rate before you sign in, which is our main frustration. We could not capture a confirmed quote, so the figures below are modelled, not pulled live.

What we could establish is that the margin is small, under 1% over the mid-market rate on the busy Pakistan route. That is competitive, but you should still check the in-app rate against the live market every time.

When the app shows your rate, divide the amount your recipient gets by the pounds you send. Compare that against a transparent rival before you confirm.

03

Worked Example: Sending £1,000 to Pakistan

We could not capture Nec's live rate, so this is modelled on a typical sub-1% margin and dated 28 June 2026. Treat it as illustrative, then check the real in-app numbers.

Provider Rate used Fee Recipient gets
Nec Money (modelled) ~366.50 £0 promo ~366,500 PKR
Wise 367.24 (mid) ~£6.67 ~364,790 PKR
ACE Money Transfer ~368.5 promo £0 ~368,500 PKR

Read it like this. Nec pairs a near-market rate with a zero fee, so on this corridor it can land ahead of Wise, which uses the true mid-market rate but charges a clear fee.

ACE often posts an inflated promotional rate that can beat both for a one-off send. For repeat transfers, Nec's steady low cost is the stronger case. Always compare the PKR total, not the fee alone.

Costs to watch

  • Fund by bank transfer, not card, to keep the fee at zero
  • The live rate is only visible once you sign in
  • A promo rate may not last, so check before each send

Where and How Can You Send Money?

South Asia first, then a wider net

South Asia is the core. We found your recipient can receive money in Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Nepal, with the Philippines and parts of Europe also covered across roughly 90 countries.

Payout depends on the country. Bangladesh recipients can take it into a bKash, Nagad or Rocket wallet, while India and Pakistan lean on fast bank credit. We could not confirm easypaisa or JazzCash payout, so check that if it matters to you.

If Pakistan is your route, it helps to see how the market prices it. Compare the field on the UK to Pakistan money transfer route before you commit.

Payout options and speed

Method Speed
Mobile wallet (e.g. bKash) Within minutes
Instant credit to a major bank Within minutes
Standard bank deposit Same day to 1-2 days
Cash pickup Typically within minutes

Nec also runs a physical agent network, including branches in Europe, so paying in person is possible. For most UK senders, the app and a bank transfer will be the quickest path.

05

Who Is Nec Money Best For?

Regular senders to South Asia

This is the core case. If you support family in Pakistan, India or Bangladesh every month, Nec's zero-fee promotions and tight margin make it cheap to keep doing, especially when you fund by bank.

You trade a published rate for a low running cost.

People who pay by bank transfer

A natural fit. Because card funding costs more, the value really shows when you use Faster Payments, so this suits anyone happy to pay from their bank app.

That keeps your fee at or near zero on the main corridors.

Buyers who want certainty upfront

Less ideal. If you want to see and verify the exchange rate before you register, the lack of a public quote is a genuine drawback for you.

A provider that shows its rate openly will suit you better.

When another provider fits better

  • You want a published rate you can check before signing up
  • You need a specific wallet that Nec may not support
  • You are making a single one-off send and want a promo rate
06

Nec Money Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Frequent zero-fee promotions on South Asian corridors
  • Tight exchange-rate margin, under 1% on Pakistan
  • Fast payout, often within minutes to wallet or bank
  • FCA authorised payment institution with safeguarded funds
  • Strong, if small-sample, Trustpilot rating

Cons

  • No public rate calculator to compare before you register
  • Card funding costs more than a bank transfer
  • Small review base, so ratings carry less weight
  • Some wallet and payout details were not confirmed
  • Funds are safeguarded, not FSCS-protected
07

Is Nec Money Safe?

Who runs it

We checked the FCA Register. Nec Money Transfer Limited is an authorised payment institution under firm reference number 649461, regulated to handle your money under UK rules.

It is an independent London-based firm, registered with Companies House and separately with HMRC for anti-money-laundering supervision. It has operated in the UK remittance market for around a decade.

How your money is protected

Because it is a payment institution, not a bank, your money is safeguarded rather than FSCS-protected. Customer funds are held separately, at tier-one banks, away from the firm's own money.

That is the standard model for transfer firms and it is sound. It just does not carry the bank-style FSCS guarantee you would get on a UK deposit account.

Checks and security

Expect normal identity checks. We found Nec verifies you with a passport or driving licence plus recent proof of address, and larger transfers above £10,000 trigger extra source-of-funds questions.

The app uses multi-factor and biometric login and screens transfers against sanctions lists. Each transfer carries a unique reference code you can track.

08

Using Nec Money: App, Branches and Support

Getting started. You register through the Nec Money app or online, complete the ID checks, then add your recipient's bank or wallet details before your first send.

Paying. You fund by bank transfer for the lowest cost, or by card for speed at a higher fee. You can also pay in cash through its agent network. The app shows a real-time status as your transfer moves.

Support. The firm advertises 24/7 phone and email help, with staff who typically cover Urdu, Hindi and Bengali. That is useful when you are fixing a recipient detail or a held transfer.

09

Nec Money Customer Reviews and Reputation

We read the reviews rather than only the scores, and the feedback is positive but comes from a small base, so weigh it accordingly.

Source Score Reviews As of
Trustpilot 4.7/5 48 July 2026
Apple App Store 4.0/5 4 Jun 2026

What people praise: competitive rates, the low or zero fees, fast payout to South Asia, and support that helps fix mistyped recipient details quickly.

What goes wrong: some report compliance-related account holds, slower bank deposits, and higher fees when funding by card. The review counts are small, so a few cases move the score.

10

How Does Nec Money Compare?

On the South Asia corridors the real test is cost over time, and you can see the wider field in our money transfer comparison.

The two natural rivals price differently. Our ACE Money Transfer review covers a bigger diaspora brand that often leads with a strong promotional rate, while our Wise review looks at a transparent, mid-market option with a clear fee. Two more Bangladesh specialists sit close by: our BRAC Saajan and Sonali Pay UK reviews.

Rates move daily, and we refresh the live figures, so run a live comparison of today's rates and fees before you send. Then check Nec's in-app quote against what those two deliver on the same £1,000.

11

Final Verdict: Is Nec Money Worth It?

Nec Money is a genuinely cheap way to send money to South Asia, with zero-fee promotions, a tight margin and fast payout. For regular senders who fund by bank, it is a strong, low-cost choice.

For everyday value it earns 4 out of 5, helped by FCA authorisation and safeguarded funds. The running cost on Pakistan, India and Bangladesh is hard to beat.

What holds it back is visibility. You cannot see the rate before you join, the review base is thin, and a few payout details need confirming. Check your in-app quote against a transparent rival, and if it matches our modelled figures, it is well worth using.
