Money sent from Indonesia to Pakistan usually arrives as a bank deposit or as cash collected at an agent, and through Western Union it can also reach a wallet such as JazzCash or Easypaisa. Western Union sends in person from an agent in Indonesia, so you complete the transfer at the counter with ID. Indonesia is fairly open, but for a larger transfer you'll be asked for documents showing the genuine purpose. The upfront fee is only part of the cost. What really decides how many rupees arrive is the margin added to the exchange rate, so compare the amount that actually reaches the recipient, not just the fee.

01

Why Indonesia to Pakistan shows no live prices yet

Currency Expert's live comparison engine prices transfers that start in the UK and a handful of other major sending countries, where the providers we connect to operate. None of them currently quote transfers that start in Indonesia, so the route comes back empty even though money genuinely moves on it.

Indonesia is fairly open for outbound transfers, but Bank Indonesia asks for a genuine purpose behind a foreign-currency transfer, with documents above a monthly threshold. Until we can pull live Indonesia rates, this page lists the operators on the corridor, and what we could verify about each, rather than a live price table. Treat it as a shortlist, not a quote, and confirm the rate, fee and limits at the branch before you commit.

02

How the money reaches Pakistan

Money into Pakistan arrives as a bank deposit or as cash collected at an agent, and through Western Union it can also reach a mobile wallet such as JazzCash or Easypaisa. Cash and wallet payouts are usually the fastest, often within minutes, while a bank deposit takes a little longer.

Cash pickup — collected at an agent with the recipient's ID and the reference number
Usually minutes
Mobile wallet — via Western Union to a JazzCash or Easypaisa wallet, using the recipient's registered number
Often minutes
Bank deposit — credited to the recipient's Pakistani bank account using their name and account number
1 to 3 business days

For a bank deposit, you'll need the recipient's full name and account details. For cash, they collect with a government photo ID and the reference number. For a wallet, their registered mobile number. You send from an agent in Indonesia, so you complete the transfer in person with your own ID.

03

What sending money to Pakistan really costs

The headline fee is only part of the cost. On most transfers the bigger number is hidden inside the exchange rate, so it helps to know where each slice goes before you send.

01

The exchange-rate margin

Operators usually add a margin to the mid-market rate between the rupiah and the rupee. On a larger transfer this margin can outweigh the upfront fee, so judge the deal by the rupees that actually arrive, not by the counter fee.

02

Indonesia's documentation rules

Indonesia asks for a genuine underlying purpose behind a foreign-currency transfer. Buying foreign currency above about US$10,000 in a month needs supporting documents, and there is a monthly purchase cap of about US$50,000 per person. For a larger transfer, the paperwork matters as much as the fee.

03

Cash, wallet and bank pricing

Cash and wallet payouts avoid a bank wire but can carry a wider rate margin, while a bank deposit may pick up a receiving-bank fee. Check the total cost, including anything the recipient pays, not just the sending fee.

04

Rules on each side

Sending from Indonesia

Outbound transfers are supervised by Bank Indonesia, which asks that every foreign-currency transfer be based on a genuine underlying purpose. Buying foreign currency above about US$10,000 in a month needs supporting documents, and there is a monthly foreign-currency purchase cap of about US$50,000 per person. You'll need ID. Use a regulated operator rather than an informal channel, and confirm the current thresholds before you send.

Receiving in Pakistan

Inbound remittances arrive through the banking channel, regulated by the State Bank of Pakistan. Personal remittances received this way are not taxed, and Pakistan actively encourages them. The recipient can take the money to a bank account, a mobile wallet such as JazzCash or Easypaisa, or as cash. Make sure the account or wallet details are correct before you send.

05

Funding your transfer without overpaying

Because you send from an agent in Indonesia, you'll usually fund the transfer with cash in rupiah at the counter. If a branch offers to take a card, check first how your bank treats it. Some issuers process a money-transfer payment as a cash advance, which can add a one-off fee and interest from day one, quietly making a cheap-looking transfer expensive.

06

Scams to watch on this route

The most common traps target the recipient in Pakistan. These few rules are worth passing on to whoever you're sending to.

The fake "release fee" message

Rule: be wary of a message claiming a transfer is "stuck" and needs a clearance, customs or tax fee to release it. Legitimate remittances on this route don't work that way, so never pay to unlock money.

PIN and OTP requests

Rule: to receive money into a JazzCash or Easypaisa wallet, the recipient never shares a PIN or one-time code. Anyone asking for one to "release" a payment is a fraudster.

Wrong account or wallet details

Rule: confirm the recipient's account or wallet number from something they sent in writing before you send, since a payout to the wrong account is hard to reverse.

Confirm before you send

Rule: use a verified operator rather than a stranger offering a better rate off-platform, and keep your reference number safe until the money is collected.

07

How most people send money from Indonesia to Pakistan

Takeaway

For most people, the simplest route is Western Union paying out as cash or to a Pakistani bank account, sent in person at an agent in Indonesia with ID. It can also reach a JazzCash or Easypaisa wallet, and it is the only operator we can verify for sending from Indonesia, so this is a short list rather than a comparison. Because we can't show a live quote here yet, judge it by the rupees that actually arrive after the rate margin, and confirm the recipient's details before you send.

We couldn't evidence that MoneyGram lets you send abroad from Indonesia, so we've flagged it rather than presented it as verified. MoneyGram does have a large agent presence in Indonesia, over 27,000 locations by its own count, and it pays out in Pakistan. What we can't find is a sending offer from the Indonesia side.

MoneyGram's own site lists the countries you can send from, and Indonesia isn't among them, and it publishes no Indonesia sending page the way it does for the countries it serves. Its agent network here may still take an outbound transfer over the counter, so this is a gap in what we know rather than a verdict. Ask at a branch before you rely on it.

It's served, but thinly, and we'd rather say so. Pakistan receives the money to a bank account, a JazzCash or Easypaisa wallet, or as cash.
