Ebury Review Verdict

Our verdict

Ebury is a corporate FX and trade-finance provider for established businesses, not a transfer app for individuals. You get a dedicated dealer, forward contracts to fix a future rate, multi-currency collection accounts and a tight margin once your volume earns it.

The honest framing matters: this is business-only. There is no personal account, no cash pickup, and onboarding is built for firms with real volume, with a practical minimum around £10,000 a transfer.

How Much Does Ebury Cost to Send Money?

Ebury's exchange rate and margin

Ebury makes its money on the FX margin, not a per-transfer fee. There is no setup or monthly charge. The spread sits over the mid-market rate, and a dealer quotes you the number.

Here is the catch: the price is quote-based, not published. Independent data puts the typical margin at 0.4%-1.2% on lower volume and 0.1%-0.6% on higher volume. A high-street bank usually charges 3%-5%, so even the wider band beats your bank.

Ebury transfer fees

There is no account or subscription fee, which is refreshing. The cost is built into the rate instead. Minor per-payment fees can apply on obscure corridors that have to route via SWIFT.

Cost component Typical
Account setup £0
Monthly / subscription £0
Margin (lower volume) 0.4%-1.2% over mid-market
Margin (higher volume) 0.1%-0.6% over mid-market
Per-payment fee Generally £0; minor SWIFT fees on some corridors

Sending £1,000 to EUR and USD with Ebury

Your business transfers will usually be far larger, but here is the mechanism. These figures are illustrative, from a representative 0.5% margin on the mid-market rate on 25 June 2026; your dealer quote will differ by volume.

Rate Fee Recipient gets
Ebury, GBP to EUR (~0.5% margin) ~1.1482 £0 (in spread) ~€1,148
Ebury, GBP to USD (~0.5% margin) ~1.2646 £0 (in spread) ~$1,265

On £1,000 the gap to mid-market is a few pounds. On six-figure flows that same margin is what decides the cost, and it is where your negotiated dealer rate earns its keep.

Costs to watch

  • The margin is negotiated, so a low-volume firm pays the wider end of the band
  • Pricing is not published, so check your quote against the live mid-market rate
  • SWIFT routes on obscure corridors can add a small per-payment fee

Who Is Ebury Best For?

Sending money to family overseas

Not an option, and worth saying plainly. Ebury has no personal accounts and no cash pickup, and it onboards registered businesses with real volume.

If you are sending money to a relative abroad, a consumer app like Wise or Remitly is the tool you want. Ebury is simply not built for you.

Business and supplier payments

This is Ebury's home ground for international business payments. The collection accounts let you receive in euros or dollars like a local, local payouts move money out, and a single file clears a payroll or supplier run.

The trade is the relationship model: you onboard, you get a dealer, and the best pricing follows your volume. A very small firm may find Wise Business simpler and cheaper to start.

Large one-off transfers

A real strength, and it comes down to forwards. Picture a manufacturer due to pay a €250,000 invoice in three months, with the rate drifting the whole time.

Ebury can fix today's rate with a forward contract, so you know the cost now. That is what a dealer-led broker does and a transfer app cannot. For a large, dated business payment, this is the right tool.

When another provider fits better

  • You are an individual or a sole trader without a registered company
  • Your recipient needs cash, or you want app-based personal transfers
  • You want published, self-serve pricing with no dealer relationship

Ebury Pros and Cons

Pros

  • A tight, dealer-negotiated margin that undercuts a high-street bank
  • Forward contracts, window forwards and market orders to hedge FX risk
  • Collection accounts to receive in major currencies like a local firm
  • Mass and bulk payments by API or CSV, plus Xero and NetSuite integrations
  • No setup or monthly fee; the cost sits in the spread

Cons

  • Business-only: no use to you as an individual or for personal remittance
  • Quote-based pricing is not published, so it is harder to compare upfront
  • A practical minimum around £10,000 a transfer shuts out very small senders
  • No cash pickup and no mobile wallet
  • Safeguarded, not FSCS-protected, so no £120,000 guarantee

Is Ebury Safe?

How Ebury protects your money

We checked Ebury against the FCA Register. Ebury Partners UK Limited is authorised as an e-money institution under FRN 900797, and ring-fences 100% of client funds in segregated accounts at Tier 1 banks.

That is not FSCS protection, so there is no £120,000 guarantee. As an EMI, Ebury cannot take deposits or lend your money out, and in an insolvency the safeguarded funds go back to clients ahead of creditors.

Account security and fraud protection

Security is built for finance teams. You get two-factor authentication, role-based access and multi-level approvals, so a large batch can need two managers to release it. Strict source-of-funds checks are part of why a payment can be held.

07

Using Ebury: Sign-Up, App and Support

Signing up and verification. Onboarding is full business verification: company details, directors, ownership and source of funds. It is heavier than a consumer app, so build the time in before a deadline.

App and website. Ebury runs the Ebury Online platform for quotes, payments and reporting, with a lighter app than the digital-first players. The pull here is the dealer, not a slick phone screen.

Customer support. This is the relationship model's payoff: a dedicated dealer or account manager, not a support queue. The flip side is compliance friction, where a source-of-funds review can hold a payment while you wait.

08

Ebury Customer Reviews and Reputation

We read the recent reviews, not just the headline number, and they cluster around one clear strength and one recurring gripe.

Source Score Reviews As of
Trustpilot /5 ~775 Early 2026

What people praise: the personalised service from dedicated dealers, and hedging tools that protected their margins through volatile spells.

What goes wrong: sudden account closures or funds frozen pending compliance and source-of-funds checks, and the opacity of quote-based pricing.

09

How Does Ebury Compare?

Against Wise Business, Wise is simpler and cheaper for a low-volume SME, with published pricing and the mid-market rate, while Ebury gives you forwards, a dealer and tighter margins at scale.

Against Airwallex, Airwallex is the digital, self-serve platform for global collections and local payouts, while Ebury is the relationship-led broker with hedging and trade finance.

Against moneycorp or OFX, the three are close rivals for dealer-led FX and forwards. We compared these routes ourselves, and we refresh the live figures daily, so see our money transfer comparison for the corridor you care about. Among fellow corporate-FX providers our Convera, Equals Money and IFX Payments reviews cover the closest rivals.

Final Verdict: Is Ebury Worth It?

Ebury is a serious FX and trade-finance partner for businesses that move money across borders at volume.

If you want a dealer, forwards to fix a future rate, collection accounts and mass payments, and you have the volume to earn a tight margin, it is among the best in its class. We rate it 4.1 out of 5.

Just be clear on the boundary: this is business-only, the pricing is quote-based rather than published, and an individual sending money home should look elsewhere entirely.
